To keep your fabric lounge looking and feeling its best for years to come, we recommend a few simple habits as part of regular care and maintenance. With just a little attention, you can help preserve the shape, colour, and comfort of your custom-made piece.

1. Rotate, Flip & Maintain Cushion Shape

Where possible, we recommend rotating and flipping your seat and back cushions regularly — ideally once a week. This helps prevent uneven wear and tear, prolonging the life of your lounge by evening out the stress on both the fabric and the foam. For lounges with fixed-back cushions (non-removable), we suggest regularly massaging and manipulating the cushions by hand. This helps redistribute the internal fill, maintain shape, and prevent flattening over time. A gentle push, pull, and fluffing motion can go a long way in keeping things looking plump and supportive.

2. Vacuum Gently but Often

Dust and dirt can settle into fabric over time, so we recommend using a soft brush attachment to gently vacuum your lounge every 1–2 weeks. This helps maintain the look and hygiene of your fabric and is especially important for textured or open-weave materials.

3. Avoid Direct Sunlight

Like all textiles, fabric can fade over time if exposed to strong, direct sunlight. If possible, position your sofa out of harsh sun, or use blinds or curtains to protect it during the brightest parts of the day.

4. Treat Spills Promptly

Accidents happen! For most spills, gently blot (don’t rub) with a clean, absorbent cloth. Avoid using household cleaners, as they may damage the fabric or leave marks. 5. Do Not Remove Cushion Covers for Separate Cleaning

Even if your cushions have zippers, do not remove the covers for separate cleaning or washing. Instead, use an upholstery spot cleaner (available at the Silverwater store). Avoid dishwashing or laundry detergents. Do not wet the filling or scrub with a stiff brush, as this can damage the cushion and fabric.

6. Keep Pets & Sharp Items in Mind

If your pets love the sofa as much as you do, consider using a throw or cover to protect high-use areas from claws and fur. Be mindful of sharp objects like buckles, zippers, and toys, which can snag or damage delicate fabrics.
